DATA
In 2021, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) interviewed 4,998 households in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador and asked them questions related to food security, their living conditions, migration intentions, and about the motivations, costs, and economic impact of household members who had migrated.
In 2022, the United Nations World Food Programme set up hotspots with internet access at four border locations: Colombia, at the border of Panama’s Darien Jungle, Honduras, and Guatemala. These migrants were making their way through Central America to reach Mexico and finally the United States. In exchange for internet access, migrants were asked questions about their home country, migration routes, preparations, costs, and the risks they had to take along their journey thus far.
